  Moons of Jupiter

About this app

This 3D simulator shows you the motion of Jupiter and of its four Galilean moons, continuing a series opened by our previous app named Planets; you can observe the Jupiter's Great Red Spot and the smaller Jovian storms in high resolution, as well as the surface features of the moons. Imagine you are traveling in a fast spaceship that can orbit the planet and its moons, directly observing their strange surfaces. The original images we have used in this utility came from three important sources: Milky Way - ESO/S. Brunier, Jupiter - www.solarsystemscope.com, the Moons: stevealbers.net and Bjorn Jonsson; however, they were tuned a little bit in order to make them more clear. This app is mainly designed for tablets (landscape orientation is recommended), but it works fine on the modern phones too (Android 5 or newer).

How it works

Once the starting animation ends (Jupiter will show up in the centre and the Milky Way galaxy in the background), you may access the menu from the left and select any of the four moons. Then you can zoom in, zoom out or rotate this mini solar system, as you like. A double tap anywhere on the screen will toggle the Menu on and off. Rotation starts and stops the auto-rotate function of this app, while Info displays basic information about the currently selected cosmic body.
